| Abstract | A provisional global biozonation of Devonian chitinozoans is proposed. The system is subdivided into nineteen biostratigraphic subdivisions with eighteen interval range biozones and one total range biozone as the group became extinct at the end of the Famennian. The selected index species must be widespread across at least two paleocontinents. The lack of suitable taxa for some periods led to intervals without formal zonation. The chitinozoan index species and important accompanying species are illustrated. One new species, Fungochitina ultima, is described. |
